REST IS NECESSARY

DAY FOR REST

Whether it is Sunday; the day observed as a rest modeled by the creator, or Labor Day created by the American labor movement, a DAY FOR REST is vital to success.  Rest, Relaxation, and Repose allows for human rejuvenation that supports further innovation.  SAID IN SHORT: rest, Rest, REST!

In band I learned a rest is a specified interval of silence in a sheet of music that has equal importance as a note.  Human auditory requires appropriate breaks in a series of tones or notes, to be processed as a song.  As a trumpet player rests were friends of my lips and cheeks.  They allowed pause that enabled me to endure as an accompanying piece of the brass section no matter the length of the song played.

When a person visits their personal physician during a spell of illness REST is almost always a part of the prescription given.  The human body requires suspension of routine activities for opportunity to heal.  During rest the conscious mind is interrupted and the subconscious works towards restoration.

Have you ever paid close attention to a newborn baby?  What activity do they engage in most?  REST!  You got it.  The tiny being processes necessary information for growth while resting.  Before you know it the peaceful baby is up and alertly exploring the world around them, doing things they once appeared incapable of achieving.  If there is something GREAT you would like to achieve in life, modeling a newborn could prove to be the best action taken.

Before a BIG GAME athletes are instructed to rest.  Public speakers are advised to rest before delivering their message to a crowd.  Students are advised to rest before taking standardized tests.  Cranky toddlers are put to rest for a fresh start.  Anything that is to be accomplished requires rest for successful results.

Rest can be embraced in a number of ways.  Good ‘ole sleep is the most common way to stop the body for repair.  Some people have trouble getting to or remaining sleep.  If this is you meditation may be useful.

Meditation is a practice in which an individual trains the mind and/or induces a mode of consciousness to realize some benefit, according to Wikipedia, although it can be argued meditation is a goal in and of itself.   The term meditation refers to a broad variety of practices (like sports), which range from techniques designed to promote relaxation, contact spiritual guides, build internal energy (chi, ki, prana, etc.), receive psychic visions, get closer to God, see past lives, take astral journeys, and so forth, to more technical exercises that target development of compassion, love, patience, generosity, forgiveness and more.  As a before-bed-routine, meditation used with relaxing stimuli can lead the mind, body, and spirit into an energy level conducive of restful sleep.

Rest can also be done while alert and present in life through receiving a massage, sitting in observance of nature, and kicking back in comfort with people whom you love.  There are an abundance of rest filled activities that can be incorporated into your daily living.  Doing so will reward you in the act. ENJOY.

Don’t wait to rest on traditional specified days.  Establish quality pauses in your daily routine for optimal performance.  You are an ACHIEVER.  Celebrate your victory with the REST YOU DESERVE.

Sincerely,

DeMeitta Wesley
